Details About PM Tech Certification

Mainstream’s PM Tech certification is free, and covers all aspects of acid and moisture detection, acid removal, water removal, compressor maintenance, coil maintenance, proper refrigeration charging techniques, advanced diagnosis, and leak testing procedures.

PM Tech certification is needed to offer the full warranty benefits of Mainstream’s QwikProducts to your customers. With PM Tech certification, you can purchase Mainstreams QwikService Preventative Maintenance Kit (QT2100) and automatically provide a 1 year Limited Compressor Labor Warrantee along with your PM season tune up or repair (See details on the QwikService box).

Four types of certification are available; Apprentice, Journeyman, and Master PM Tech. Prior to obtaining any of Mainstream’s PM Tech certifications, the technician must have an EPA 608 certification from an EPA approved certifying agency, such as Mainstream. Only 608 CERTIFIED TECHNICIANS can obtain a PM Tech certification.

The PM Tech certification exam is free, and instructions for taking the exam are provided below.

The exam consists of 25 questions, related to preventative maintenance and proper use of QwikProducts to service, repair and maintain air conditioning, refrigeration, and heat pump systems.

Apprentice PM Tech Certification

Requires EPA certification from Mainstream or any other EPA approved testing organization, and successfully completing the free PM Tech on-line exam with a score of 84% or better. Documentation to prove EPA certification by any organization other than Mainstream, must be received and verified. For Mainstream certified 608 Technician’s, we will automatically verify your certification.

Journeyman PM Tech Certification

Includes al the requirements of the Apprentice PM Tech plus at least 5 years verifiable experience in the HVAC/R trades. Documentation to substantiate this experience is required.

Master PM Tech Certification

Includes al the requirements of the Apprentice PM Tech plus at least 10 years verifiable experience in the HVAC/R trades. Documentation to substantiate this experience is required.

Exam Procedure and Exam Rules

  1. This is an open book exam, you may use the manual freely, but you may not receive help from any other person.
  2. Print a copy of the PM Tech Reference Manual.
    The Exam consists of 25 multiple choice questions. You must get at least 21 correct to pass. All the answers are in the PM Tech Reference Manual.
  3. You must be EPA Type I, Type II, Type III, or Universal Certified to obtain PM Tech certification.   4. PM Tech certification is free. However, if you wish to purchase a plastic certification card, Wall Certificate, PM Certification decal or patch, include the completed Order Form and payment.
  5. You can check your score at www.epatest.com and select the Test Results button (21 correct out of 25 is passing) within 2 business days of passing the exam.
  6. Once you are PM Tech certified, we will contact you by e-mail to notify you that you passed and make arrangements to post your companies PM Technician qualifications on the www.PMTech.us web site.
