Mainstreamís HC/HFO certification is free, and covers all aspects of techniques and regulations for the safe handling of flammable hydrocarbon and hydrofluoroolefin refrigerants. Prior to obtaining Mainstreamís HC/HFO certification, the technician must have an EPA 608 certification from an EPA approved certifying agency, such as Mainstream.

Only 608 Type II, III or Universal CERTIFIED TECHNICIANS can obtain a HC/HFO certification. The HC/HFO certification exam is free, and instructions for taking the exam are provided below. The exam consists of 25 questions, related to techniques and regulations for the safe handling of flammable hydrocarbon and hydrofluoroolefin refrigerants.

Exam Procedure and Exam Rules

  1. This is an open book exam, you may use the manual freely, but you may not receive help from any other person.
  2. Study the HC/HFO Reference Manual.
  3. The Exam consists of 25 multiple choice questions. You must get at least 21 correct to pass. All the answers are in the HC/HFO Reference Manual.
  4. You must be EPA Type II, Type III, or Universal Certified to obtain HC/HFO Tech certification. If this certification was not obtained from Mainstream, you must email, mail or fax us a copy of your certification card to:

  5. HC/HFO certification is free. However, if you wish to obtain a plastic certification card, Wall Certificate, HC/HFO Certification decal or patch, they may be purchased in the Online Store.
